The ultimate result and goal of Truthful Grace is to let go of everything that holds us back and to run into the open arms of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

By the time I met our father he was in a nursing home and was not cognitively able to acknowledge my presence.   And yet, for the first time in my life, I gazed into eyes that looked like my own and glimpsed where I had come from. 

One day, tragedy struck and as my world spun out of control, and my heart was broken, I was also confronted with the reality that the religion I had believed to be The Truth, didn’t have what I needed in this time of deepest sorrow and need.  Sadly, I had no idea that there was anything better. 

I no longer have to match scripture to what I have been taught.  I am a blood bought Christian and I believe in the Word of God. In John 8:31 & 32, Jesus says, “…If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and truth will set you free.” I praise God daily for He has set me free.

My family and I did eventually leave – but instead of ruining my life, it opened my heart to Jesus. He is now more important to me than a day could ever be. He is my Sabbath rest every day of my life. Oh, by the way, there is life after Adventism – full, happy, deep Christ-centered life.

I was sure that my friend would "see the truth" in our studies and I would help convert him (he was Christian, mind you – just not an Adventist). I never imagined it would be the other way around!

Honestly, I’m the last person I would have ever imagined leaving the Adventist Church.  For most of my life, I truly felt so fortunate to be part of the “only true remnant church.”  I understood, and really believed, the church’s unique doctrines. 

I am filled with the assurance that my sins were dealt with 2,000 years ago by the Scapegoat (Jesus) who bore them to the cross outside the camp.

I am reestablishing the truth in my heart daily. I hope to be baptized soon into the true gospel and to publicly declare that Jesus has saved me. The journey is almost complete and the victory is already won. All glory and praise be to the One who saved me.  

Greater spiritual hunger has grown in my heart this past year than in the previous 40 put together. It all started one day, from a simple conversation with a stranger: “Let me ask you a question”, he said. “Why don’t Adventist’s drink coffee?” We were discussing the similarities between Adventism and Mormonism. As an Adventist, I was attempting to maximize the differences! 

Where are the Adventist preachers who will preach the gospel instead of the Sabbath? Where are the people who will lift up Jesus and His completed work on the cross instead of the Investigative Judgment? Where are the people of faith who will lay down their lives, not for a church or an organization or a project – but for Jesus Christ? Where is the selfless army that will storm the gates of hell to bring the lost to salvation, not a denomination?

Dear reader, I share these experiences in order to provide information about the SDA Church and the process of leaving it. Perhaps when God puts SDAs in the pathway of your life, you can minister to them in a more informed way, realizing that they are not just another denomination of people who worship on Saturday instead of Sunday. We continue to meet with some who have come out of Adventism for the purpose of Bible study, prayer, and encouragement. We have discovered that it is a long, hard road to deprogram from a group that has cultic characteristics.

We believe we are saved by grace, sealed and indwelt by the Holy Spirit, are joint heirs with Christ, are right now sitting in Heavenly places with Christ, have the righteousness of God in Christ, have eternal life right now because we believe in Christ and Him who sent Him., This is all God’s word.

God uses methods unique to each in order to draw us to himself. Moses responded to the curiosity method with the burning bush. For me, the earthquake approach was far more effective. Moses was sold after just one burning bush. It took multiple earthquakes to turn my wagon around.

During a crisis in my life I realized that I had nothing whatsoever to hold onto. The intellectual machinations I had been given offered little comfort when my world came crashing down. It was then that God sent some Christians from a local Bible-based, Spirit-filled church in to deliver me from my empty religion.

The veil of Adventism is thick like armor. It is heavy and cumbersome. It binds and restricts. But my Savior is careful to tenderly remove the veil from my heart, one layer at a time, until I am finally free. Thank you, Jesus.

The complexity and depth of the grip of Adventism is just now becoming evident to me. Just when I think the work is finished, I find another layer of falsehood that must be renounced and washed away.

I rejoice with joy and wonder at the eternal soul and spirit He has put in me. He has put an eternal soul and spirit in me! Oh my God! My Lord! What have You put in me?! Thank You! I HAVE eternal life! Thank You!
